DETAILS: Silk noil front, natural dyes, beading. Reverse side is cotton with indigo Kumo design and also beaded. Machine pieced, hand quilted and hand beaded. Sixteen blocks, each a different design and individually dyed with natural dyes in the traditional Japanese method. Numerous Shibori techniques, traditional and original designs. The batting is natural cotton.

This artwork showcases a large variety of Shibori techniques. Some of the dyes used are only available once a year. It took quite awhile to complete this as each block and the reverse side were designed, stitched, resisted, bound and dyed individually. The border also dyed separately. The blocks then had to be joined, borders added, batting and reverse side assembled. The entire piece was then hand quilted, beaded and finished.

I apologize but the color in the image of the entire artwork is a too bright and the actual colors are more complex with a softness of depth. The DETAIL image is slightly closer in color and edges are more accurate in their sharpness. It is quite difficult to photograph the intricate details and nuances of Shibori and therefore I have included directly scanned details.

The extensive beading is not shown in these images as it did not scan well. The details of the beading are lengthy and contain unusual surprises. Please e-mail any questions you may have. For serious inquiries photos and color swatches are available. Thank you!
