White and colored pencil on black and white out

To create a work on black paper I will generally lay the picture out in pencil very lightly. Then I pick high points where reflected light would be most evident. Once I’ve done that, I picture subtle details and give them a touch of light. Finally I again go back over the entire piece adding pure white or brilliant color to enhance the subject. By doing this I give it a shine or bring out the main object in the work. Depending on the mood of the piece, sometimes a second light source is helpful. This comes in handy for back lighting to show shape and form on the "dark Side" of the subject matter.
