Tom Hayden, with help from an assistant, held a discussion with activists in the convergence center in Los Angeles. He talked about his experience in the protests at the DNC in 1968, his efforts in the California state senate, and the effectiveness with which protests are able to put issues on the agenda in government. After the protests in Seattle, Hayden developed a report for the state senate about California, democracy and the World Trade Organization.
Members of the Bus Riders Union, who were easy to spot in their bright yellow t-shirts, were well represented at the protests against the DNC. They are a very diverse and youthful local group which fights for better transportation for low-income neighborhoods. They chanted, "A thousand more buses, a thousand less police."
