It was originally hosted by a service called Onelist.com, which was acquired by eGroups.com, which was itself acquired by Yahoo! The colored-pencils list has flourished throughout that time, growing to its present size of over 250 members. Many members are well-known, widely published and active in the Colored Pencil Society of America (CPSA), while others are relative newcomers to the medium. This had led to a richly diverse group of artists who all are able to discuss ideas and techniques in ways that benefit everyone.
