Shadowline
Cast paper is something that has intrigued me for years. It is a way of making a bas-relief that relies solely on the play of light and shadow of a piece of paper. It is not an embossment. Most of my cast paper pieces are very intricate and show a variety of levels. The process is very complex to start, but once the initial work is done the casting goes quickly. I start with a relief that I sculpt of wax and then make a mold. Next I hand make a piece of paper that I place in the mold and first press in an improvised press I made. The piece is then slowly burnished from behind to capture all the intricacies.
